The Bahamas National Trust has an exciting opportunity for an Education Officer who will provide educational programs and experiences of the national parks.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop educational programs and materials
  • Deliver education and outreach programs
  • Design and develop curriculum-based field trips.
  • Create opportunities for self-guided experiences.
  • Lead the recruiting and training of education volunteers, apprentices, or interns.
  • Educate visitors about Leave No Trace principles and the preservation of natural and cultural resources.
  • Organize and participate in special events, workshops, and festivals.
  • Support the BNT’s photo library and social media platforms through photo-taking and cataloging.
  • Manage budget(s) allocated to programs.
  • Manage logistics of field trips, educational events, workshops, seminars, and classes.
  • Provide weekly updates on work
  • Gather feedback to assess program effectiveness.
  • Continuously expand knowledge of the park’s natural and cultural resources and current trends in environmental education.
  • Assist with interpretation for the preserve

 

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences or Education.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in self-contained teaching.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • A natural public speaker with the ability to connect easily with audiences of all ages, especially young people.
  • Knowledgeable and strong appreciation of the Bahamian natural resources.
  • Able to swim and willing to learn additional marine skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must love the outdoors and can work in the sun, sand, and sea.
  • Able to lift 45 lbs.
  • Flexible, adaptable, responsible, and safety conscientious.
  • Relatable and personable with students, groups, leaders, visitors, or locals.
  • A team player with a good work ethic.
  • Strong moral standards.
