The Bio-Medical Engineer is responsible for the management of the Biomedical Engineering Department with the aim of achieving the goals and objectives of The South-West Regional Health Authority.

 

Key and Critical Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements departmental strategic plans, goals and objectives.
  • Liaises with contractors to ensure that periodic maintenance of bio-medical equipment is carried out in compliance with service agreements and manufacturer specifications.
  • Develops and reviews policies and procedures on the management of bio-medical equipment for the department 
  • Develops preventative maintenance schedule for all medical equipment within the South West Regional Health Authority.
  • Provides advice and guidance to Managers/Department Heads on new trends, technology and practices for the purchase/requisition of new equipment.
  • Represents the Department/Authority on committees and boards as required.
  • Organizes and coordinates training for members of the department on the installation and operation of medical equipment.
  • Prepares department budget based on approved guidelines and procedures.
  • Prepares reports and other written documents in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Authorizes the release of performance bonds for contractors supplying medical devices.
  • Prepares or review specifications for the purchase of new equipment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Ability to perform duties according to assigned rosters or plans that can be formulated in times of authorized service exigencies.
  • Ability to use the relevant computer applications related to job functions.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • The incumbent is required to possess a B.Sc. Degree in either Electrical/Electronics, Computer Engineering, Medical Physics, Bio-medical or related field.
  • Eight (8) years experience in Bio-medical maintenance, five (5) of which must be at a managerial/supervisory level.
